The Emergency Departments at both Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells have expanded to provide a Paediatric Nurses in the Emergency Department at Maidstone and increase establishment at Tunbridge Wells. We therefore have vacancies for the role of a Paediatric staff nurse within the Emergency Department. This role will involve assisting with the developing of the service and developing the applicant’s skills and knowledge in relation to patient care in Paediatric Emergency Nursing.

For this post you should be an experienced children’s nurse. The department is led by a Senior Paediatric Sister and supported by a Practice Development Nurses, devoted to the development of the nursing team.

We have very strong nursing leadership and can offer support from our substantial senior team, which includes our two ED Matrons and Emergency Nurse Practitioners.

Our Emergency Department offers an educationally focused environment that allows nurses to professionally grow and develop a vast repertoire of clinical skills and theoretical knowledge.

To ensure this we have strong links with three local Universities and are committed to delivering work-based educational initiatives. We have a structured pathway leading to both your professional and career development. As a developing trauma centre all nurses undergo specific training and are required to work in our 6 bedded resuscitation area.

You will join a dedicated team of experienced and motivated paediatric nurses, and Paediatric Consultants available at peak times, along with 10 Emergency Department Consultants.


You will be expected to attend the Trust’s Induction Programme for RNs, RMs and ODPs (which starts on the first day of employment). The programme is full-time (please contact the programme lead if this is problematic: nicola.henthorn@nhs.net), lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area and classroom-based study days which run from 9am to 5pm.
