An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Trauma and Orthopaedic wards at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.  We are looking for someone who has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, is dedicated and passionate about providing the best possible care for our patients and will share our vision and values in best practice. 

We currently have Band 5 vacancies on both the Acute Trauma and the Elective / Trauma wards with the possibility of internal rotation to both wards whereby you can secure a position on either department of your choice at the end of the internal rotation without the need for a further interview. The option of ward choice and internal rotation can be discussed at interview. However, it must be noted that any applicants wishing to partake in an internal rotation will be obligated to complete the rotation between both departments in full. 

Ward 31 is an Orthopaedic trauma ward which specialises in providing care to patients who have experienced trauma requiring emergency surgery, such as those patients with fractured neck of femurs, complicated dislocations, and neck and spinal injuries.

Ward 30 is an Elective Orthopaedic ward specialising in joint replacement surgery following the Enhanced Recovery Programme but also admits patients directly from fracture clinics and A&E.

Both of our Orthopaedic wards are vibrant, friendly, modern, forward thinking departments which promote evidence based high standards of patient care & with the support of the Practice Development Nurse we are always looking for new initiatives to improve patient experiences & outcomes. Professional development is paramount and all staff are encouraged to fulfill their potential with the full support from senior nursing teams and the Trusts Practice Development team.

Tunbridge Wells Hospital is a trauma centre which is part of SELKaM - the Major trauma network that covers South East London, Kent & Medway. (SELKam has been rated the best performing Trauma Network in the country). Tunbridge Wells Hospital is the first NHS hospital in England to provide single rooms with en-suite facilities, many of which have woodland views. It is located within a short distance of a vibrant & thriving town with excellent schools, shops, bars, restaurants & theatres. The area has good transport links to both London & the coast & is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

You will be expected to attend the Trust’s Induction Programme for RNs, RMs and ODPs (which starts on the first day of employment).  The programme is full-time (please contact the programme lead if this is problematic: nicola.henthorn@nhs.net), lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area and classroom-based study days which run from 9am to 5pm.
